Farewell 2014 & Hello 2015

What a year 2014 was for us at The Star Tree Studio, we did so many different things, joined in a range of community and charity events and achieved so much! We’ve had such a busy time working to grow and develop the Studio & Toy Shop that it’s easy to lose sight of what we’ve actually done in a short space of time.

So this blog post is dedicated to looking back over the past 12 months.

Our creative art and craft classes have gone from strength to strength and are growing in popularity and number. We have organised weekly Baby Messy Play, Tiny Stars and Art Stars sessions that have been enjoyed by the numerous children and parents that attend throughout the year.  Our classes really form the heart-beat of the Studio and without doubt the Studio would not be the same without them. Our aim for 2015 is to maintain the high standards we provide our customers with, develop our ideas and introduce some new classes.

The first quarter of the year saw us introduce Decopatch as a new craft available at the Studio, provide ‘reward’ creative workshops for Gifted & Talented primary school children and themed creative sessions at parent and toddler groups. In March we celebrated our 1st Birthday and we marked being open for a year by holding a special open event with free activities, cakes and balloons for our customers.

Decoupage / Decopatch has since become a mainstay craft at the Studio this year, so much so that due to customer interest we set up Ladies Decoupage Nights, when adults could come along and get creative on their own or with friends without their children. This was popular and provided the adults who joined us with a chance to relax and enjoy this relaxing craft.

Our Create & Make Party is very well established and we have built on the great start made in 2013 by becoming ‘the place to go to’ for high quality fun creative art and craft  birthday parties. We’ve continued to take our parties to customers too on a mobile basis for those that wanted us to both within the local area and beyond. We’ve found parents booking us when they are looking for something different or when they want a specific theme such as Frozen, dinosaurs, fairies and even a 1st Birthday Baby Messy Play Party! Our experience, reputation and customer testimonials have all helped build the word of mouth and kept us busy with lots of birthday parties throughout the year.

The Tour de France passing through the Rochdale borough in July created some great opportunities for us to get involved and pass on the TdF fever to local children. In June, we were successful in receiving funding to provide workshops and free activities to ‘Create, Celebrate & Commemorate’ the Tour de France.  We worked with Littleborough Community Primary School and with a small group of children from Year 1 to 6 created an amazing decoupage bicycle in TdF jersey colours. We also secured enough funding to be able to provide local children with an opportunity to make their own decorated wooden bicycle which we had made especially, inspired by the yellow bicycles usually displayed along the TdF route.  A record number of 230 children attended our stand at the TdF Family Fun event in Hare Hill Park and they all created a fabulous range of bicycles as well as joining in our Design a Jersey Art Competition.

July also saw The Studio attending two popular local events – Rushbearing & Littleborough Firestation Charity Event. Both these events mean a lot to us at the Studio, we have been involved with both previously and we will continue to provide our creative activities in support of the organisations and charities.

We continued to build partnerships with local nurseries and Scamps Day Nursery once again brought all of their preschool children along to the Studio to participate in a special themed End of Year Art Stars session with us. We also organised a school holiday workshop for a childcare provider who brought a group of children to visit the Studio for a trip out.

In August and September we supported a range of local charity and community events through providing creative event activities at the Norden Jubilee WW1 Family Event, Rays of Sunshine Charity Event at Littleborough Cricket Club, an Autism Awareness Charity Event, Brighter Side Cancer Support Charity Event and the Mayor of Rochdale’s Charity Fete. We also decided to select our own local charity to support and held online shopping events where we donated a percentage of our profits to Honresfeld Leonard Cheshire Disability

We were proud to continue our contribution to the fantastic Littleborough Arts Festival once again providing two creative workshops for children during their festival week.

In November we organised a special Minecraft themed event aimed at children age 5 years plus. The day was well attended and we put a second date on in December. Following the success and positive feedback we received we are hoping to be able to offer more special themed days aimed at older children throughout 2015.

In the run up to Christmas we encouraged our customers to Shop Local with us by arranging online shopping nights and attending Christmas Shopping Nights, school fairs and Christmas Markets.

Finally the highlight of our year came in December as we held our own take on meeting Santa – Storytime With Santa and Christmas Crafts, a special one off event which was fully booked and thoroughly enjoyable as Santa was amazing and to top off the wonderful year we were awarded the title Rochdale’s Hidden Gem following receiving the most votes in a public poll.

So that’s our 2014 in review, so good to see the progress we have made with the Studio, it’s been a rollercoaster but an amazing one at that and we have high hopes that 2015 will be even better!

A huge ‘Thank You’ to all our fabulous customers for your support as always, we wouldn't be here without you :)
